A career that changed Rock Music
Jack White has established himself as one of the most important and influential figures in modern rock music.
He first rose to international prominence as one half of The White Stripes, alongside Meg White, with the duo becoming synonymous with a stripped-back, blues-infused approach to rock that would influence a generation of musicians.
The band’s catalogue produced some of the most recognisable rock songs of the 2000s, while their distinctive visual identity and uncompromising artistic approach established Jack White as an artist who consistently operated outside conventional boundaries.
White subsequently expanded his musical universe through The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and an increasingly acclaimed solo career.
As a solo artist, he has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including Blunderbuss, Lazaretto, Boarding House Reach, Fear of the Dawn, Entering Heaven Alive and No Name, continuing to explore the boundaries between blues, rock, garage, punk, folk and experimental music.
His latest studio album, Frozen Charlotte, further demonstrates White’s continuing evolution as an artist and his ability to remain creatively unpredictable more than two decades after first exploding onto the international music scene.
White’s live performances have become renowned for their spontaneity, intensity and musicianship, with setlists spanning his solo career as well as material from his celebrated work with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
“For an artist whose career has often been defined by restless movement, there is something refreshing about hearing him place his faith in chemistry, momentum, and collective muscle. It’s a hell of a ride. If you haven’t got a ticket for the live tour, put your third son on eBay to get one.” – UNCUT (9/10)
“If, as some have argued for many years, rock music is in danger of going into cardiac arrest, then Jack White has the keys to the defibrillator and the skills and desire to shock it back to life.” – MOJO (4/5)
“Like a doll, a guitar is a collection of lifeless parts that, in the right hands, can become a whole world. More than most of the albums in his Rock Hall career, White’s Frozen Charlotte is a love letter to his favorite instrument.” – CONSEQUENCE
“Monster riffs and electrifying vocal melodies still flow out of White, and when he bashes them out in less-than-pristine fidelity, I could listen to them all day. Like No Name before it, Frozen Charlotte is full of absolute stompers.” – STEREOGUM
White’s seventh studio LP, Frozen Charlotte, includes the ferocious new single and closing track, “Neighbors Blues,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services. The album was first announced last month alongside the scathing “Dollar Bill.” The track was met by high-profile applause from media outlets around the world, including Rolling Stone, NME, Stereogum, SPIN, and Consequence, the latter of which raved, “There are three or four riffs in ‘Dollar Bill’ that plenty of guitarists would kill to write: downward cascades of vibrato; playful strums that pop upwards and turn into the chords of the verses; and the rocking chunks of power chords in the chorus…While White is no stranger to social and political themes, the way he approaches them here does feel different, with abstract and even disconnected phrases adding up to a tone poem about what we’re willing to do for money.”
Produced and mixed by White, Frozen Charlotte shows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer at his very best, backed by an incredible band whose collective hand was scorching hot after coming off the universally acclaimed No Name World Tour. Instead of resting on a job well done, White and his fellow musicians went straight to work at his Third Man Studio in Nashville and laid down what became Frozen Charlotte. Boasting 13 brand-new tracks of distinct feel and tone, the new LP is an intense rock and roll punch with blues underpinnings never far behind, carrying on with the same raucous, raw, and frenetic energy from White’s GRAMMY® Award-nominated, critically lauded 2024 sixth studio LP, No Name. Highlights include the fiery “Derecho Demonico” and “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs,” both available now at all DSPs and streaming services. White and his band marked the release of the two new songs earlier this year with electrifying performances of both songs during a landmark sixth career appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
More than a Rock Star
Beyond his work as a performer and songwriter, Jack White has played a significant role in preserving and celebrating music history through Third Man Records, the independent record label, recording studio and creative enterprise he founded.
Third Man has become synonymous with vinyl culture, analogue recording, independent music and innovative approaches to music production and distribution.
White’s influence extends far beyond his own recordings, with his work as a producer, collaborator and label founder helping to champion artists and musical traditions from across generations.
His career has earned him multiple Grammy Awards and widespread critical recognition, while his distinctive approach to performance, recording and visual presentation has cemented his reputation as a true original.
South Africa, get ready
For South African fans, the upcoming shows represent an opportunity to experience Jack White’s celebrated live show up close and personal.
From the unmistakable sound of The White Stripes to the explosive energy of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, and his acclaimed solo catalogue, White’s extensive body of work has produced a remarkable collection of songs that have become part of the modern rock canon.
